A message from Roger Wong, Vice Dean, Education.
I am pleased to announce the appointment of Dr. Robyn Hutchings as the Associate Dean, Student Affairs, MD Undergraduate Program (MDUP), effective to May 31, 2030.
Over the past decade, Dr. Hutchings has held a variety of integral roles within the Faculty of Medicine. In her most recent role as Assistant Dean, Student Affairs, Southern Medical Program (SMP), she led a range of initiatives supporting student wellbeing, career planning, cultural supports, academic advising, and financial aid. She previously served as Director of Faculty Development, Portfolio Lead, and Clinical Skills Instructor at the SMP. Dr. Hutchings practices clinically as a pediatric emergency medicine physician and also provides virtual pediatric on call support to rural communities throughout B.C. through the Real Time Virtual Support CHARLiE line.

As Associate Dean, Student Affairs, Dr. Hutchings will provide strategic leadership to the Student Affairs portfolio within the MD Undergraduate Program, advancing province-wide planning and ensuring alignment with the Faculty’s strategic priorities and institutional policies. With a strong emphasis on fostering a vibrant and inclusive community that enriches student experience and engagement, she will oversee student support and programming across all four regional sites.
In this role, Dr. Hutchings will also work to ensure equitable and comprehensive access to a broad range of personal and academic support services, including counseling, career planning, financial advising, tuition and student loan support, student awards, and student-led activities. In addition, Dr. Hutchings will provide leadership in the development and implementation of initiatives that promote student wellbeing and advance equity, diversity, and inclusion within the Faculty of Medicine.
I would like to sincerely thank Dr. Sarah Bartlett for her dedicated service and leadership as Interim Associate Dean, Student Affairs, over the last nine months. Dr. Bartlett’s commitment and contributions have been instrumental in sustaining this important portfolio.
Please join me in congratulating Dr. Hutchings on her appointment and welcoming her to this role.
