This division of the Faculty of Medicine offers continuing professional education for the practicing physicians in BC and consists of an educational unit and a research unit. CPD offers courses, conferences and workshops as well as self-directed activities such as preceptorship and directed reading.
Faculty Career Development
During the year, events, workshops, and videoconferenced webcasts are made available to support our provincial faculty. If you are new to our Faculty you may wish to check with your Department Administrator as well as the monthly “link” bulletin sent to all faculty and staff.
This division of the Faculty of Medicine is designed to help faculty members flourish as a medical educator, they offer new programs and services aimed at enhancing skills in teaching and learning, assessment and evaluation, leadership and educational research.
UBC Human Resources and the Centre for Teaching, Learning and Technology (CTLT) are pleased to announce a 5-month pilot of lynda.com resources at UBC. This service is available to all UBC faculty and staff between November 1, 2013, and March 31, 2014.
UBC HR’s “ODL” group offers Service solutions for the individual, for the team, and for the organization.
Individual Team include such services as performance management consulting and group needs assessments – interventions designed to enhance team cohesion and performance.
Services designed to impact the larger organization are also available for a business unit.
Services include one-on-one coaching services.
The MOST Program offers a wide range of personal, professional and technical workshops. Some are free, while others have a minimal cost.
UBC Continuing Studies serves the adult education needs of lifelong learners at the University as well as in the community. Whether interested in career training or just want to explore topics out of general interest, they offer a wide range of courses, workshops, seminars and certificate programs throughout the year.
Faculty members (based on eligibility) are able to select from a wide variety of undergraduate and graduate level courses available through the University.
The Tuition Fee Waiver provides tuition assistance, up to a maximum of 12 credits over any 12-month period (provided a fee-paying student is not displaced). This benefit covers tuition fees only, and does not cover any other fees that may be associated with the course. [A tuition waiver benefit is also available for dependent children. Guidelines for eligibility are available here.]
To submit a waiver, login to the UBC Faculty & Staff Self-Service portal using your Campus Wide Login (CWL). Follow the prompts and instructions for submitting, updating or canceling a tuition fee waiver.
The Library provides instruction, courses, workshops etc., on a variety of topics including an orientation to the library system at UBC, research skills, instruction on the numerous databases available and general skill development in certain microcomputer applications (eg., PowerPoint).
