How long have you worked at the Faculty of Medicine?
I’ve been here for 5 years
Tell us what you do at the Faculty in one or two sentences:
I write, produce, and direct videos for to help faculty teach things to learners. I also dabble in digital media, trying to hack up videos with interactivity and elements web design.
What’s your favourite thing about your work?
On the best projects, we’re collaborating to create media – we’re writing and telling stories to students to help them learn. That’s really just a great big sandbox.
One thing we might be surprised to learn about you?
I used to direct a summer camp, create programming for hundreds of kids per summer, and then take them out on extended wilderness trips. 2, 3, 4 weeks in a canoe in Northwestern Ontario. We used to paddle at night under the Northern lights. Sigh, I miss that.
What is the song you sang out loud as a teenager?
I would never sing as a teenager, far too shy and self-conscious. I sing more way now. Couldn’t care less what people think of my perfect monotone.
What makes you laugh?
I have a pretty dark sense of humour. For example people in the audience cried during a short film of mine, describing it as tragedy. Funny enough, I thought it was a comedy and had no idea people wouldn’t laugh. I was the only one laughing during most of the screenings!
One thing on your desk you brought from home?
A pile of soaking wet pile of receipts rescued from my pockets after bicycling through the rain.
Most healthy habit:
Fine American Bourbon. (that’s what you were looking for, right?)
Favourite vacation spot?
A little beach hidden away behind the jungle about 200 miles south of Cancun, near Tulum. There’s a fresh water lagoon right behind it and a dock you can dangle your feet off of and tease the alligators with. Berlin is a pretty wonderful place, too. And Gimli Manitoba.
