FAQs

Q: Can I use Dropbox or Google Drive?

A: “UBC Workspace is hosted at UBC and meets UBC Policy and BC legislative requirements. As we often deal with private and confidential information at UBC, it's important to consider a solution that provides the upmost security on information assets.” (Source: UBC IT)

Q: Where can I host videos?

A: UBC IT is currently undergoing a project to deploy an enterprise-wide video platform to provide a centralized and integrated platform for the delivery of video assets. More information about the project is available here. While the enterprise-wide video platform is not yet available, there are options currently available:

  • External video-sharing websites (e.g., YouTube, Vimeo) for publicly-accessible videos.
  • Canvas for password-protected videos for students and learners.

Q: Can students access MedNet Team Sites?

A: No, team sites are available for faculty and staff only.

Q: How can I share photos?

A: If the photos need to be password-protected, you can use Workspace or a Team Site. If the photos do not need to be password-protected, you can use a WordPress gallery along with the Easy FancyBox plugin for a lightbox view. Another option for photos that do not require password-protection, is to use external photo-sharing websites (e.g., Flickr, Picasa) embedded on a webpage (see example of embedded Flickr album).

Before posting photos online, please consider the suitability of displaying the photos in a public space. Photos that are posted online without password-protection are available and accessible to anybody.
