Med Video on Demand (MVoD) provides a video hosting platform to stream video directly on UBC websites. The service is similar to other video hosting platforms (e.g. YouTube, Vimeo) except that the videos are hosted on a UBC server supported by MedIT. Hosting your video using MVoD is an easy way to ensure that you are treating personal information in a way that is compliant with the Freedom of Information and Privacy Act (FIPPA)
as it applies to public bodies like UBC.
An example of an MVoD video embedded on a website.
After the website administrator receives an email notification from MedIT and embeds the unique URL to the website, users can click on the hyperlink and the embedded video will open in a new tab. The video can be paused/played, navigated through, volume adjusted, and expanded to full screen.
Please note that video links will expire after the current academic year plus one year.
The MVoD service is available to the Faculty of Medicine and other University-based health and science groups.
To apply for the MVoD service, please complete the recording section on the Room Request Form. Please allow 1-3 business days for a response on your application status.
Reminder for Event Organizer:
You will be asked to submit the URL of your website and the name and email address of your website administrator. Please inform the MedIT Service Desk immediately if the website administrator contact details change to ensure your group continues to receive notifications about hosted videos.
MVoD Training Guide
After you have been approved for the MVoD service you can use the MVoD Training Guide to learn about recording notifications, posting videos to your site, and modifying start and end times.
Features and Benefits
For security reasons, the link to the hosted video will only work when embedded on the website specified through the room booking form. You may forward the link of your webpage to users to view videos. Videos are not downloadable through the website but you can request for a downloadable copy for your unit’s use.
Videos hosted on UBC IT servers are stored securely within Canada.
