Dr. Jan Friedman appointed interim Head, Department of Medical Genetics

Dr. Jan Friedman

I am pleased to announce that Dr. Jan Friedman has been appointed interim Head, Department of Medical Genetics effective to December 31, 2022. Dr. Friedman’s appointment follows the interim leadership of Dr. Matthew Loricz.

Dr. Jan Friedman is a clinical geneticist and professor of Medical Genetics, and previous served as head of the Department of Medical Genetics from 1992 to 1999. During this time, he developed and implemented the Medical Genetics Graduate Program and the MSc Genetic Counsellor Training Program. Dr. Friedman is a clinician-scientist whose research bridges clinical genetics and more fundamental studies of genetics and genomics. He is also a recognized expert in clinical teratology, with a focus on determining the safety or risks of birth defects related to maternal medication use during pregnancy.
