A message from Dermot Kelleher, Dean, Faculty of Medicine and Vice-President, Health.

I’m pleased to announce Dr. Jonathon A. Leipsic as Head of the Department of Radiology, effective to June 30, 2027.

Dr. Leipsic is a UBC professor in the department of radiology and the department of medicine’s division of cardiology. He is also currently the vice-chair of research for the department, as well as chair of the department of radiology for Providence Health Care and Vancouver Coastal Health. In addition, he is past president of the Society of Cardiovascular Computed Tomography.

As a researcher, Dr. Leipsic is a Canada Research Chair in Advanced Cardiopulmonary Imaging. His research involves using advanced imaging technology to better understand and treat cardiovascular disease including both ischaemic and valvular disease. He has over 650 peer reviewed manuscripts in press or in print, more than 300 scientific abstracts, and was recently named to the prestigious top one percent most impactful scientist designation by the Web of Science three years in a row (2019-2021).

In his new role, Dr. Leipsic will provide leadership to the Department in advancing its teaching and research programs in partnership with BC’s Health Authorities.

His appointment follows the leadership of Dr. Bruce Forster, who has led the Department since July 2010. I wish to recognize Dr. Forster for his dedication and significant contributions to the Faculty while in this role.

Please join me in congratulating Dr. Leipsic on his appointment.
