I am pleased to announce the appointment of Dr. Peter Choi as interim Head, Department of Anesthesiology, Pharmacology & Therapeutics, effective to June 30, 2024.
Dr. Choi is an anesthesiologist and a professor in the Department of Anesthesiology, Pharmacology & Therapeutics. His research focuses on the reduction of cardiorespiratory complications in the perioperative period. Dr. Choi also serves the department as Vice-Chair of Education, as well as Anesthesiology Undergraduate Education Director in the MD Undergraduate Program. He has also served as a member of the UBC Clinical Research Ethics Board and the UBC Vancouver Senate.
Dr. Choi’s contributions to medical education have been recognized by the Canadian Association for Medical Education, and he was named a Champion and Culture Changer by the Canadian Federation of Medical Students in 2021.
Dr. Choi’s appointment follows the leadership of Dr. Roanne Preston, who has led the Department since 2012. I wish to recognize Dr. Preston for her dedication and many contributions to the Faculty while in this role.
