Dr. Quynh Doan

We are delighted to announce that Dr. Quynh Doan has been appointed Associate Dean, Research, BC Children’s Hospital Research Institute (BCCHR), UBC Faculty of Medicine and the Senior Executive Director, BCCHR for a five-year term effective to June 30, 2028.

Dr. Doan is an associate professor in the Department of Pediatrics’ Division of Emergency Medicine and a health services research scientist at UBC. She is also the Director of Clinical Research at BCCHR, where she has served as interim Senior Executive Director since December 2021.

As a clinician-scientist, Dr. Doan’s research is focused on the evaluation of pediatric emergency department patterns of use and the assessment of the value of emergency care provided to children and families. She has further specialized in youth mental health emergencies and has developed, evaluated and implemented digital support tools such as the HEARTSMAP for clinicians, MyHEARTSMAP for children’s self-assessments, and HEARTSMAP-U for universal screening among post-secondary students.

During her term as interim Senior Executive Director, BCCHR, Dr. Doan prioritized the development of institutional practices and research to optimize inclusivity. She has been working to ensure everyone can participate in research, regardless of English language proficiency. Representation from all enables equitable and evidence-based child health, as well as generalizable knowledge creation. Dr. Doan has led the Research Institute with passion and drive, constantly seeking ways to improve current practices.

As the Associate Dean, Research, BCCHR and Senior Executive Director, BCCHR, Dr. Doan is responsible for the overall strategic leadership, research leadership and operational management of the Research Institute. Her responsibilities will include establishing a long-range strategic plan, ensuring it is consistent with priorities of UBC, BCCH, and Provincial Health Services Authority (PHSA). Dr. Doan will be accountable for the leadership and strategic direction of research activities as well as the scientific direction and management of BCCHR in support of the Research Institute’s mission to conduct discovery, translational and clinical research to benefit the health of children and their families.
