A message from Dermot Kelleher, Dean, Faculty of Medicine and Vice-President, Health.

Earlier this year, I had the pleasure of connecting with faculty, clinical faculty, staff, learners, alumni and partners around the province as part of Beyond 75, a series of special in-person events to mark the Faculty of Medicine’s 75th anniversary.
These events were an incredible opportunity to come together as a community to reflect on the Faculty’s remarkable journey and evolution since 1950, and to celebrate the many contributions of our people — past and present. On Vancouver Island and in Northern B.C., we also recognized the 20th anniversaries of the Island and Northern Medical Programs.
The events were a powerful opportunity for all of us to look ahead: to imagine the future of medicine at UBC and beyond.
We heard from many of you about current and future challenges, ranging from an aging population to threats posed by climate change. Yet in the face of these challenges, we also heard about the many opportunities that lie ahead for this extraordinary Faculty — from harnessing the power of AI to improve health outcomes, to increasing interdisciplinary research opportunities and further expanding our education and training programs to reach more communities across this vast province.
Today, I am pleased to share the Beyond 75 community engagement report, which captures highlights from each of the events, and provides an overview of the ideas, input and feedback gathered from the Faculty community and partners. I would like to thank everyone who contributed so meaningfully — your candour, insights and input will help to inform the Faculty’s future activities and priorities here in B.C., across Canada and around the world.
And so, as we cast our eyes to the future, let us always remember that our vision — to transform health for everyone — is one that requires us all to continue innovating, collaborating, and most importantly, evolving.
This message was sent to Beyond 75 event attendees and all faculty, staff and learners in the Faculty of Medicine.
