Changes to Policy on Clinical Faculty Appointments & Upcoming Information Sessions

A message from Amy Salmon, Director, Clinical Faculty Affairs, UBC Faculty of Medicine.

I am pleased to share important updates to the Faculty of Medicine Policy on Clinical Faculty Appointments.

These updates are in direct response to feedback from clinical faculty to clarify policies and processes for appointments, expand opportunities for promotion, and align rank criteria to more fully recognize the distinctive and significant contributions of clinical faculty.

The changes have been made in consultation with a diverse representation of clinical faculty and the Clinical Faculty Advisory Council, as well as with the involvement of administrators and academic leaders across academic units and regional sites.

You can find more information on the updated appointment policy, as well as reappointment and promotion processes, on the Faculty of Medicine website.

Information sessions

The Clinical Faculty Affairs team are offering a series of one-hour information sessions on the policy and process updates. All clinical faculty are strongly encouraged to register for one of the following sessions:

  • Wednesday, October 15, 7–8 am
  • Tuesday, October 21, 4:30–5:30 pm
  • Monday, October 27, 12–1 pm
  • Thursday, November 13, 5:30–6:30 pm

Each session will provide an overview of policy and process improvements, updated rank criteria and key steps for reappointment and promotion. Each session will also provide a question-and-answer opportunity.

I look forward to connecting with you about the policy improvements this fall. Please contact the Clinical Faculty Affairs team at ocfa.med@ubc.ca with any questions.
