Strategic Investment Fund: Call for proposals

A message from Dermot Kelleher, Dean, Faculty of Medicine and Vice-President, Health.

I am delighted to announce that the Faculty of Medicine is now accepting Strategic Investment Fund (SIF) proposals for 2024.

Since the fund was established in 2017, the Faculty has invested more than $12M in 117 projects that align with our strategic plan. Together, these projects have mobilized resources, expertise, and enthusiasm across the Faculty of Medicine, driving meaningful change and helping to make a positive impact in communities around the province.

For the 2024 SIF competition, we are particularly eager to continue supporting projects that reinforce our commitments to reconciliation, decolonization and Indigenization. These projects play a vital role in addressing the Faculty’s Response to the Truth and Reconciliation Commission Calls to Action and UBC’s Indigenous Strategic Plan.

We are also committed to fostering equity, diversity, inclusion and anti-racism/anti-oppression as foundations for systemic and behavioural change. We encourage proposals that align with the Faculty’s efforts to cultivate a culture of respect and professionalism across the Faculty, including disability awareness and inclusion within our workplaces.

Additionally, we recognize the urgent need to prioritize health in the face of climate change. As showcased in the most recent issue of Pathways, the Faculty is tackling this matter head on, and we welcome proposals with new perspectives and solutions to future-proof our health in a changing climate.

I encourage you to share your ideas and submit a proposal that will contribute to advancing the strategic areas highlighted above, as well as all our commitments, goals and strategies outlined in the Faculty’s strategic plan. You can learn more about previously funded projects on the strategic plan website.

The deadline for submitting proposals is Monday, September 9, 2024.

Thank you for your ongoing dedication and valuable contributions to advancing our shared objectives and vision to transform health for everyone. I look forward to receiving proposals for this new year of funding.
