The Black Excellence in STEM Speaker Series is a student-led initiative that celebrates and amplifies the contributions of Black leaders across STEM, hosted by UBC’s Faculty of Applied Science.
Through four hybrid sessions, the series brings together students, researchers and professionals for mentorship, connection and learning. For those who attend in-person at UBC Vancouver, there will be an opportunity to network with the guest speakers and student organizers.
The series runs through February, and features speakers from across a range of STEM disciplines.
- February 3 | How to Build Cool Things, Break The Rules, and Stay Audacious with Coralie Tcheune
- February 10 | Swimming to UBC Like a Fish with Dr. Rashid Sumaila
- February 23 | How Learning Works: Living Sober in a Time of Excess with Dr. Kemi Ola
- February 26 | Microbiome of ‘Success’: Cultivating Resilience from Roots to Ecosystems with Dr. Zelalem Taye
