Climate Solutions Research Collective: Climate, Canada, & International Courts featuring Dr. David Boyd

Join UBC’s Climate Solutions Research Collective for the launch of its third year, for a discussion on critical issues related to climate solutions and how the community can contribute through research.

In this presentation, Dr. David Boyd will explore the impact of two recent international advisory opinions: an advisory opinion from the Inter-American Court of Human Rights declaring the right for every person to a healthy climate, and an opinion from the International Court of Justice stating that nations have legal obligations to address the “urgent and existential threat” of climate change. He will discuss the potential implications for Canada’s next Nationally Determined Contribution, as required under the Paris Agreement, due at the end of September 2025 and two ongoing lawsuits launched by Canadian youth.

The Climate Solutions Research Collective is a pan-university initiative designed to build connections across UBC and to encourage new collaborative research on climate change solutions.
