Website admins: Google Analytics transition to GA4

Google is moving from its Universal Analytics tool to the new Google Analytics 4 effective July 1, 2023, after which date Universal Analytics properties will no longer collect data.

To continue collecting analytics on your website, you will need to create a new Google Analytics 4 (GA4) property for your site.

Please note, you may have received a notification from Google that it automatically created a new GA4 property for your site. To continue collecting analytics, you will still need to add this to your website — see step two below.

Required: Create a new GA4 property and add it to your website

Follow the linked instructions to learn how to set up GA4 and continue collecting analytics data on your website.

  1. Create a new Google Analytics account and a new GA4 property
  2. Add the GA4 property to your UBC CMS website (two options available)

Recommended: Export your historical data from Universal Analytics

It is recommended that you export the data from your Universal Analytics property to retain access to your website’s historical analytics. According to Google, you’ll be able to access the data in your Universal Analytics property for at least six months after the July 1, 2023 transition date.
