Dr. John K. MacFarlane passed away on November 10, 2023.
A Professor Emeritus, Dr. MacFarlane joined the UBC Department of Surgery in 1986 while serving as Head of Surgery at St. Paul’s Hospital. He also served as president of the Pacific Coast Surgical Group, the Canadian Association of General Surgeons and the North Pacific Surgical Association.
Dr. MacFarlane was recognized by the Department in 1996 with the Dr. H.R. Robertson Award for outstanding clinical teaching of undergraduate students.
The BC, Musqueam and UBC flags were lowered on Thursday, December 14, 2023 in remembrance.
