In Memoriam: Dr. Juhn Wada

Dr. Juhn Wada

Dr. Juhn Wada passed away April 22, 2023.

An internationally celebrated neurologist, Dr. Wada was a Professor Emeritus in the Department of Psychiatry. He joined the Department in 1961, and in addition to his research work he established and served as Director of the first surgical epilepsy program and seizure investigation monitoring unit in British Columbia, at UBC Hospital. He also served as founding President of the Canadian League Against Epilepsy, President of the American Clinical Neurophysiology Society and President of the American Epilepsy Society.

Dr. Wada’s work was recognized by a number of prestigious awards, including the Lifetime Achievement Award from the International League Against Epilepsy and the International Bureau for Epilepsy. He was appointed an Officer of the Order of Canada, conferred to the Order of the Sacred Treasure from the Emperor and Empress of Japan, and awarded the Queen Elizabeth II Diamond Jubilee Medal.
