In Memoriam: Dr. Marcel Dvorak

Dr. Marcel Dvorak

Dr. Marcel Dvorak passed away on May 9, 2025.

A pioneering medical researcher and educator, Dr. Dvorak was a current Professor in the Department of Orthopaedics, where he previously served as Head of the Division of Spine and Director of the Spine Postgraduate Fellowship Training Program. He also served as head of the Spine Program at Vancouver General Hospital, and initiated the creation of the hospital’s Blusson Spinal Cord Center.

An internationally-renowned spine surgeon, Dr. Dvorak focused on adult spine surgery, particularly scoliosis and kyphosis, as well as traumatic spinal injuries. His work advancing the understanding and treatment of spinal injuries was recognized through a number of major awards.
