Dr. Neil Reiner passed away on August 7, 2025.
A leader in the study of infectious diseases, Dr. Reiner was a Professor Emeritus in the Department of Medicine, where he previously served as Head of the Division of Infectious Diseases. He also served as Director of the Vancouver Coastal Health Research Institute’s Immunity and Infection Research Centre.
Dr. Reiner’s research on intracellular pathogens advanced understanding of how protozoan parasites cause infections, with the goal of generating new approaches to advance drug and vaccine development for diseases with limited treatment options. Dr. Reiner was also noted as a dedicated mentor and teacher.
