Changes to PIRL and PCPP
There are recent updates to the Prescribed Interest Rate Loans (PIRL) and the Provost Priority Child Care Placement Program (PCPP).
As mentioned in the July newsletter, the Prescribed Interest Rate has increased effective July 1, 2022. Please refer to the UBC Prescribed Interest Rate Loans webpage for this update.
Moreover, there have been some recent changes to the guidelines for the PCPP program that came into effect in June 2022. The PCPP Program dedicates 12 childcare spaces, assigned by the Office of the Provost for full-time tenure-stream faculty members, providing them with higher placement on UBC Child Care waitlist. The changes are as follows:
- While both recruitment and retention applications are accepted, recruitment applications will be prioritized, recognizing there may be instances where retention applications may be approved.
- For approved applications, one deferral is permitted within the calendar year in which a PCPP spot on the UBC Child Care waitlist is offered. Note that UBC Child Care spaces are subject to availability. There is no deferral year over year. Applications may be re-submitted for the next calendar year. For further details, please refer to the attached PDF. Information is also available on the HIRS Child care and schooling options webpage.
If you have any queries around the new changes to PIRL and PCPP, please don’t hesitate to contact FoM Faculty HR.

More Consistent Visibility on Documents for HR Roles and Employees
All Managers and HR Administrators with a HR Analyst, HR Partner, Senior HR Partner, Senior FR Partner, or Manager security role will now be able to see any supporting documents attached as part of the Time Off and Leave of Absence processes in Workday, both within the process and on the employee’s record. Previously, there was some inconsistency in which departmental HR security roles were able to view these documents on employee records or as part of these processes. Employees will also now be able to view documents uploaded through these processes on their personal record. Approvers on these processes can see any supporting documents in Workday at the bottom of the approval page, and click on the documents to see the details. Once the approvals in Workday are complete, the employee will see these documents on their Workday profile, under Personal on the Documents tab. As a reminder, when uploading documents into Workday, Managers and HR Administrators should be mindful of the information they contain given who can view them in the system. If you are unsure whether or not a document should be uploaded, please contact FoM Faculty HR. For further details on this Workday topic and updated Knowledge Base resources, please visit this link.
