2023 Payroll Schedule

The semi-monthly salary and hourly pay schedule, including time and pay cut-off dates for 2023 is available on the Finance website at https://finance.ubc.ca/payroll/procedures-resources-administrators.

Royal College 2023 Academic Certification Application

The FoM internal deadline to submit Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons (RCPSC) applications for Academic Certification is Friday, February 17th. Please share the entire package electronically via OneDrive with Fern Moran. Please do not send them directly to the Dean. Student & Employee Investigations – the Privacy Issues

The Office of the CIO is hosting a virtual event on January 24, 2023, 10:00 am – 11:00 am, with Paul Hancock (Legal Counsel, Information and Privacy at UBC) and Carly Stanhope, (Director of Investigations at UBC) who will analyze the privacy issues that arise when investigating a student or employee against accusations of misconduct.

2022 Annual Activity Reports

The annual activity reports are due January 31, 2023.  

Updates & Reminders

Recommendations for Emeritus Status

Faculty Relations confirmed that all (Clinical + Tenure) emeritus recommendations submitted in November 2022 have been approved.

Upcoming Terminations and Reappointments

Please run report “Employees with Upcoming Term End Dates” in Workday and determine if any paid or unpaid faculty members who have a termination date on of June 30th or earlier and need to be reappointed. Honorary reappointments ending June 30th will continue to be processed through the Annual Honorary Reappointment Process – our office will send the spreadsheets and information on the process to units as soon as we receive them from Faculty Relations. We expect this list to be sent out in March, but we recommend beginning to review honorary faculty with June 30, 2023 end dates and bring them forward to your reappointment committees ahead of time. Please note that eligible faculty salary increases are expected to take place in May. Therefore, it is encouraged that you process any reappointments before May or as early as possible.

Prescribed Interest Rate for PIRLs

The Prescribed Interest Rate has increased from 3% to 4% effective January 1, 2023. This means that any PIRL loans activated as of January 1, 2023 will require the faculty member to pay 4% of the loan interest.  The Provost Office and the Department/Schools support the faculty member’s loan by splitting the remaining ongoing interest cost on the loan for the 15-year duration of the loan. Going forward after January 1, 2023, the faculty member will pay 4%, and the Provost Office and the hiring faculty/department will each pay 1.65% in interest.
