Faculty Instructional Skills Workshop (in person)

This multi-day workshop focuses on giving new and experienced educators an opportunity to try new teaching approaches and sharpen existing skills in a supportive atmosphere.

New Faculty Teaching Orientation: Making Connections (in person)

Join this half-day orientation at UBCV, which serves as a space for new faculty to build professional relationship, and aims to enhance teaching skills and support efforts to create significant, transformative learning experiences for students.

CTLT Summer Institute (in-person & online)

The CTLT Summer Institute focuses on the fundamentals of teaching and learning for new instructors and teaching assistants.

  • The Summer Institute runs from August 19–22, 2024.

Teaching Development Program for New Faculty (multi-access)

This cohort program supports faculty members across UBC campuses in their professional growth as teachers. The intended audience is faculty who are either new to teaching, new to UBC, or both, with an emphasis on those who are new to teaching.

  • Program runs from September 1, 2024–April 30, 2025
  • Apply by August 30.

Healthy Aging Visual Art Prize

Members of the Faculty of Medicine community and artists across British Columbia are invited to submit a visual artwork for the Healthy Aging Visual Art Prize.

A partnership between the Edwin S.H. Leong Centre for Healthy Aging and the Djavad Mowafaghian Centre for Brain Health, the prize aims to bring together researchers, trainees, artists, older adults and other members of the public to redefine the narrative around healthy aging through art.

Submit your visual representation of “Healthy Human Aging” by Monday, September 30, 2024.

Clinical Faculty Mentoring Program

The Clinical Faculty Mentoring program pairs junior clinical faculty/new educators (mentees) with senior clinical faculty (mentors). Applications are now open for the 2024-25 program.

Delivered in partnership by Faculty Affairs and UBC CPD, the program invites clinical faculty from all Faculty of Medicine departments and schools to apply. The 2024-25 cohort will run from October 2024 to April 2025, and professional development training sessions will be available to all participants.

Apply as a mentee or mentor by July 31, 2024.

Dr. Joseph Anthony reappointed as Associate Dean, Health Professions

We are pleased to announce the reappointment of Dr. Joseph Anthony as Associate Dean, Health Professions, effective to June 30, 2029.

During his first term, Dr. Anthony provided high-quality strategic leadership and advice and representation for learners and faculty members within the Faculty’s health professions programs. He played a pivotal role in the inception and launch of various distributed health professions programs, including: the Master of Occupational Therapy program in Prince George; the Master of Physical Therapy and the Master of Science in Speech-Language Pathology programs in Victoria; and the Bachelor of Midwifery program expansion in Surrey.

In his next term, Dr. Anthony will continue supporting the Faculty’s health professions programs by fostering continued collaboration and communication with program leaders to facilitate the implementation and ongoing support of these programs and activities across the province.

Dr. Anthony will continue to chair the Health Professions Planning Committee, serve on multiple other Faculty and University committees and work on strategic initiatives in support of the Faculty’s Strategic Plan. We look forward to our continued work with Dr. Anthony.

Dr. Paul Winwood extended as Regional Associate Dean, Northern B.C.

We are pleased to announce the extension of Dr. Paul Winwood as Regional Associate Dean, Northern B.C., UBC Faculty of Medicine and Associate Vice-President, Division of Medical Sciences, UNBC, effective to June 30, 2027.

In this role, Dr. Winwood will continue to play an instrumental role in providing strategic leadership to ensure high-quality educational and research experiences for all learners, trainees and faculty in the North, including northern rural and Indigenous communities.

Working with UNBC and Northern Health and in alignment with the strategic priorities and plans of the Faculty of Medicine and UBC, Dr. Winwood will continue to provide leadership of UBC’s medical and health professions programs in the Northern region, including the Northern Medical Program and Master of Physical Therapy and Master of Occupational Therapy programs. We look forward to our continued work with Dr. Winwood.

Dr. Bruce Wright extended as Regional Associate Dean, Vancouver Island, UBC Medicine & Head, Division of Medical Sciences, University of Victoria

We are pleased to announce the extension of Dr. Bruce Wright as Regional Associate Dean, Vancouver Island, UBC Faculty of Medicine and Head, Division of Medical Sciences, University of Victoria, effective to August 31, 2024. Following this extension, Dr. Wright’s term will conclude, following 10 years of exemplary leadership.

Over the past decade, Dr. Wright has led the expansion of the Island Medical Program, fostering collaboration with stakeholders and partners to drive a unified vision for medical education across Vancouver Island. He has consistently provided exceptional support to students, staff and faculty, earning him widespread respect and trust from medical and health professional peers across Vancouver Island, the province and Canada. His steadfast dedication to medical and health education has served as a cornerstone within the UBC Faculty of Medicine.
