BC Rural Health Conference 2023

Join the Rural Coordination Centre of BC (RCCbc) for the 2023 BC Rural Health Conference on June 2–4 in Whistler.

The conference is designed for rural physicians, residents, medical students, nurse practitioners and nurses, and allied health professionals. The program includes over 50 interactive plenary and breakout sessions on current and emerging rural medicine trends, and activities to network with rural peers.

CSDI Policy Communications Clinic workshop series

The Centre for the Study of Democratic Institutions (CSDI) and Knowledge Exchange Unit, VP Research & Innovation have announced the full workshop schedule for the new CSDI Policy Communications Clinic (CPCC).

The CSDI Policy Communications Clinic offers workshops and individualized consulting hours to help UBC faculty, staff, and students communicate their research effectively to stakeholders for policy change.

Members of the UBC community can also sign up for individualized consulting time with senior members of CSDI including staff and faculty consultants.

Registrations are now open for the UBC Department of Orthopaedics and BC Orthopaedic Association (BCOA) annual Orthopaedic Update May 4–5, 2023.

Join in-person at the Morris J Wosk Centre for Dialogue in Vancouver, or remotely via Zoom-Panopto livestream.

This year’s theme, ‘Bringing It All Together’, features sessions on SCI care, patient appropriateness and optimization for surgery, orthopaedic oncology, radiculopathy and many more.

The annual Orthopaedics Research Day will take place May 3 at the Gordon and Leslie Diamond Health Care Centre. This one-day event features UBC Orthopaedics residents, fellows, and graduate students research.

New BCCSU Research & Dialogue speaker series

The BC Centre on Substance Use (BCCSU) is excited to announce the launch of a new speaker series. The Research & Dialogue speaker series aims to place substance use research in dialogue with lived experience to put the latest evidence into real world context.

The series is open to anyone with an interest in the substance use field, including people with lived and living experience, their friends and family, frontline responders, program and service providers, clinicians, policy makers, researchers and their staff, the media, and the general public.

The first sessions will begin March 29 and feature updates from key research areas of the BCCSU, including longitudinal cohort studies, youth health, and social determinants of health. The next season is scheduled to begin in September 2023.

UBC Orthopaedics launch Strategic Plan 2023-2028

The Department of Orthopaedics has launched a new strategic plan: Mobility for All, 2023–2028.

With the vision of “pain free mobility for all” at the core, this plan outlines their new strategic framework supported by our ‘stronger together’ values and ‘local to global’ commitments in three distinct areas: Exemplary educational experience, insightful discovery and engaged practitioners.

Developed in collaboration with a wide variety of stakeholders, the UBC Orthopaedics Strategic Plan 2023–2028 advances the Faculty of Medicine’s four pillars of education, research, partnership and organization through fostering supportive and safe learning environments, pursuing impactful research, and developing orthopaedic care partnerships both locally and globally.

Distinguished Achievement Awards 2023: Call for nominations

Nominations are now open for the 2023 UBC Faculty of Medicine Distinguished Achievement Awards.

The Distinguished Achievement Awards provide an important opportunity to acknowledge faculty members who exemplify exceptional contributions to the Faculty of Medicine in the areas of education, research and/or service, and who are dedicated to advancing both the Faculty of Medicine’s values and vision of transforming health for everyone.

Please review the eight available categories, with up to two awards available in each category. Depending on the category, recipients will be selected based on performance within the past assessment year or on both past assessment year and overall career achievement.

Nominations must be made by department heads or school directors by Friday, April 14, 2023. Recipients will be announced in the summer, and the awards will be presented at the Faculty of Medicine Awards Reception in the fall.

2023 Run & Ride for Rural Medicine

The Run & Ride for Rural Medicine is an annual run, walk & ride fundraiser organized by a team of medical students from UBC’s Faculty of Medicine in Vancouver, Victoria, Kelowna, and Prince George.

Now in its 19th year, the event is raising funds for Hope Air to support equitable access to medical care in Canada.

When: 9 am on March 11, 2023
