Join the Office of Respectful Environments, Equity, Diversity and Inclusion (REDI) on Wednesday, January 25 for Contextualizing and Educating about the Holocaust, in commemoration of the upcoming International Holocaust Remembrance Day.

This event will feature introductory remarks by Executive Director of the Vancouver Holocaust Education Centre (VHEC) Nina Krieger, a historical overview by historian Professor Chris Friedrichs and a keynote address by hidden child Holocaust Survivor Dr. Robert Krell. Following the presentation, an audience Q & A will be facilitated by VHEC’s Program and Development Manager, Dr. Abby Wener Herlin.

Proposed amendments to the UBC Naming Policy (GA6)

The UBC community is invited to comment on proposed amendments to the Naming Policy (GA6).

The proposed amendments expand the scope of the policy to cover all naming at UBC. The amendments recognize the integral importance of names in creating a welcoming and inclusive environment at the university and advancing Indigenous reconciliation.

The deadline to share your feedback on this policy proposal is February 15, 2023.

On January 25 at 2 pm, join UBC’s leadership in a virtual forum to learn how UBC is moving forward with implementing anti-racism commitments.

Learn about next steps for implementing the recommendations from the Anti-Racism and Inclusive Excellence (ARIE) Task Force Final Report, and how you can build a more equitable and anti-racist UBC. All UBC community members are welcome, including students, faculty and staff across the Vancouver and Okanagan campuses.

Gender equity project

The Breaking the Glass Ceiling Project invites faculty members to participate in a SIF-funded project that aims to increase gender equity and inclusivity within faculty positions and faculty leadership of the UBC Faculty of Medicine.

The project team is interested in hearing your perspectives as a UBC Faculty of Medicine faculty* member who identifies as a cis or trans woman, trans man or as Two Spirit, intersex, gender non-binary, agender, gender fluid or otherwise gender diverse, particularly those who also identify as Indigenous, Black or People of Colour.

*UBC Faculty of Medicine faculty members include those individuals with a faculty appointment within the Faculty of Medicine: clinical faculty, full-time/academic/tenure track faculty, non-tenure track faculty, affiliate or honorary faculty, etc. This also includes faculty members at UNBC, UVic and UBC-O who are connected to and work within UBC contexts (e.g. Northern Medical Program).

Options for confidential and/or anonymous participation: online open-ended survey or individual/group interview.

In Memoriam: Dr. Henry F. Mizgala

Dr. Henry F. Mizgala passed away on December 11, 2022.

A professor emeritus, Dr. Mizgala joined the Faculty of Medicine in 1980 as Head of the Division of Cardiology.

The BC, Musqueam and UBC flags were lowered on Thursday, January 12, 2023 in remembrance.
