FoM Application Process For Internal Allocation Of Chairs

Faculty of Medicine have posted an internal call for CRC T1 and CRC T2 applications from federally designated groups.

It is important to highlight that the opportunity is open only to people with disabilities, Indigenous people, racialized people, women, and people from minoritized gender identity groups.

In the application instructions on the submission portal, the faculty member will be asked to complete the Applicant Equity Survey, the link for which is included in the appropriate internal advertisement. Departments/Schools should only submit full applications to the FoM for candidates who have completed the self-identification survey and belong to one or more of the designated groups.

Self-identification is necessary for the University to determine eligibility for this CRC search. This information will be stored in a secure database within the Equity & Inclusion Office and made available to members of the committee to advance accessibility, equity, and fair adjudication in this nomination process.

complete application package for internal applicants includes:

  1. A letter of support (maximum 2-pages) from the Department Head or School Director outlining the individual’s research accomplishments to date and future research potential in brief, as well as institutional support that will be offered to the nominee by the Department/School, should the application be successful;
  2. Letter of Interest (maximum 7-pages, excluding 2-pages of references), using the 2023 CRC Competition Internal Application Template;
  3. A full UBC curriculum vitae;
  4. Financial Plan, using tab 2 of the most recent iteration of the FoM Recruitment Planner;
  5. A brief statement (1-2 pages) of the applicant’s current or planned contributions to advancing equity, diversity, and inlcusion in academic, professional, or community contexts, using the 2023 CRC EDI Statement Template.

The letter of interest covers the following:

  • Quality of the nominee (maximum 1-page)
  • Research Program (maximum 6-pages; see “For nominations” section on CRC website for specific guidelines for each section listed below):
    • Context
    • Methodology
    • Engagement with research users and communication of results
    • Description of training strategies
  • References – a list a list of all references cited in the proposed research program (maximum 2-pages)

4. Financial Plan

FoM Recruitment Planner

Provide a 10-year financial plan with commitment to fund the academic position in perpetuity with internal UBC funding source during and post CRC. These funds may come from Departmental/School/Centre/Institute/research cluster budgets or an equivalent sustainable long-term funding source, such as endowment funding. Please note, you must contact your Department/School Finance Manager to complete and validate your financial plan. You can consult the FoM Finance Organizational Chart to identify your Finance Manger if necessary.

5. EDI Statement

Provide a brief statement (1-2 pages) that describes any current or planned engagements and contributions made to advancing equity, diversity, and inclusion in academic (research/scholarship, teaching/learning), professional (non-academic or clinical work), or community (local, national, international community-based) contexts.
