Meet Sarah Hewitt, Fellowship Program Coordinator in the Department of Orthopaedics.

Title:
Fellowship Program Coordinator
Department/Unit:
Orthopaedics
Campus:
VGH – Gordan and Leslie Diamond Health Care Centre
How long have you worked at the UBC Faculty of Medicine?
17.5 years
Tell us what you do at the Faculty in one or two sentences:
I implement, coordinate, organize, and oversee all aspects of the department’s Fellowship Educational Program. We usually have around 32 Clinical Fellows from around the world and we work about 2 years in advance. Diversity that’s globally minded!
What’s your favourite thing about your work?
Getting to meet, work with and chat with people from all around the world. The playdates that my kids have had with the fellows’ children are fantastic and invaluable! So wonderful.
What’s one thing we might be surprised to learn about you?
I’m from Juneau, Alaska. It’s the capital of Alaska and the northernmost rainforest in the world – when I first moved here, people often told me how much I would dislike the cold, wet weather. They were wrong! I love the rain. It’s refreshing and cool. I FAR prefer that over the heat. And, in comparison to what I had been used to, the rain here is nothing – just need to be prepared!
What makes you laugh?
Definitely my husband, kids and cats (they are both Sphynx – so that’s funny enough as it is).
Your most healthy habit:
Hats and sunscreen, sunscreen, sunscreen
