Further to my previous memo, dated April 4, 2025, which provided an update on the search activities and the semi-finalist phase, I would now like to invite you to participate in the finalist phase of the search.
Three semi-finalist candidates met in April with a number of representatives of the Faculty and UBC Health, including academic leadership, staff, students, Clinical Faculty Advisory Council; the University’s senior administration; and the BC Health Authorities. Feedback from those representatives was considered by the President’s Advisory Committee in their deliberations and subsequent recommendation to the President. Two candidates have accepted an invitation to the final phase of the search.
All members of the Faculty of Medicine and UBC Health — faculty, staff, students and postdoctoral fellows — are invited to virtual forums at which you will have the opportunity to meet with the candidates and engage in Q&A. Please see the details and registration instructions in the email sent to all faculty, staff and learners.
In accordance with UBC Policy AP5, Deans Appointment Policy, this phase of the search process will also be confidential. All participants in the forum “must respect, safeguard, and maintain the privacy of the candidates, including keeping their identity confidential.” Per the policy, the name of each candidate will be disclosed to forum participants at the forum, and “although forum participants will not be required to sign written confidentiality agreements, they are nonetheless subject to the confidentiality requirements set out in section 4.3 of this Policy.”
All forum participants will be invited to provide their feedback on the candidates, which the President will consider before making a final decision.
