National Research Prizes: Deadline extended

The UBC Faculty of Medicine awards three national prizes to experts who demonstrate research excellence and innovation in the areas of cancer, brain disorders, and heart disorders.

The prizes, each with a value of $50,000, are awarded to experts who demonstrate research excellence and innovation in the areas of cancer, brain disorders, and heart disorders.

The nomination deadline for all prizes has been extended to March 17, 2023. Nominations can be made through the online submission portal until the deadline.


About the prizes

Dr. Chew Wei Memorial Prize in Cancer Research

The Dr. Chew Wei MBBS [HK] FRCOG [ENG] Memorial Prize in Cancer Research is awarded annually to a Canadian physician or scientist who makes outstanding contributions to the treatment, amelioration, or development of therapies for cancer.

Margolese National Brain Disorders Prize

The Margolese National Brain Disorders Prize is awarded annually to a Canadian physician or scientist who makes outstanding contributions to the treatment, amelioration, or cure of brain disorders.

Based on the prize guidelines, nominations for the 2023 competition must be for individuals internal to the University of British Columbia.

Margolese National Heart Disorders Prize (external)

The Margolese National Heart Disorders Prize is awarded annually to a Canadian physician or scientist who makes outstanding contributions to the treatment, amelioration, or cure of heart disorders.

Based on the prize guidelines, nominations for the 2023 competition must be for individuals external to the University of British Columbia.
