Michael Smith Health Research BC: C2 & Reach programs

Michael Smith Health Research BC’s C2 and BC Reach programs support researchers in teaming up with research users, such as health professionals, patients and policymakers, to move research evidence into policy and practice.

The C2 Program promotes knowledge exchange and meaningful collaboration by supporting researchers, trainees and research users in co-developing research that can have direct impacts on people, including patients, health practitioners and policy makers.

The BC Reach Program promotes knowledge translation activities by supporting researchers and research users in disseminating research evidence through co-developing events, activities or tools to “extend the reach” of their work.

Apply for up to $20,000 by 4:30 pm on May 13, 2024.

Rapid Response 2024 program

The Rapid Response 2024 program is a seed funding opportunity from the Weston Brain Institute, designed to catalyze novel, high-risk, high-reward translational research that accelerates the development of therapeutics or tools for neurodegenerative diseases of aging.

Researchers can apply for up to $300,00 in funding per project. Applicants must submit a Letter of Intent by April 30, 2024.

The Taylor International Prize in Medicine

UBC research leaders in aging-related medical science and research are invited to apply for the 2024 Taylor Prize.

The international medical research prize is given annually by the Robarts Institute at Western University for achievements in basic or clinical research in a particular field. This year’s theme is The Science of Aging, which explores the impacts of medical research and innovation on human health and the concept of growing old.

Submit nominations by May 1, 2024.

UBC Okanagan: Discounted transit passes for faculty & staff 

UBC Okanagan faculty and staff are eligible to enrol in the ProPASS Program to receive a reduced cost on adult monthly bus passes.

ProPASS is a program offered by BC Transit and their regional partners. UBCO has worked with the City of Kelowna to bring ProPASS to UBCO to support employees in choosing transit for their commute.

Enrolment for the Summer 2024 Pass Period is open until May 10, 2024.

In Memoriam: Dr. Lorne Sullivan

Dr. Lorne Sullivan

Dr. Lorne Sullivan passed away on March 28, 2024.  

A Professor Emeritus, Dr. Sullivan served as the Head of the Division of Urology at UBC from 1991-1999. 

During his years of clinical practice, he developed a centre for the surgical management of urological cancer at UBC and was a visionary in the establishment of the Vancouver Prostate Centre. Dr. Sullivan also served as President of the Canadian Urological Association, the Northwest Urological Society, and the Western Section of the AUA. He chaired the Specialty Committee in Urology and held the esteemed position of Chief Examiner for the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada.
