May 23 | Addressing the Gap: Navigating Knowledge Gaps on Indigenous Contexts and Topics in Teaching and Learning (Online)

Classrooms are diverse spaces, comprised of many different lived experiences and knowledges. Join this in-depth workshop to explore strategies for integrating Indigenous topics and addressing knowledge gaps in a good way.

June 4 | Sharing Back Our Knowledge: Development of the Indigenous Learning Pathways Training Program (Online)

Launching in Summer 2024, Indigenous Learning Pathways (ILP) is a multi-course online training program that supports new UBC employees with meaningfully and respectfully engaging with Indigenous histories, knowledges, perspectives, and realities in their role. Attend this session to learn more about the development process behind ILP, including partnership approaches, lessons learned along the way, and opportunities that emerged to create systemic change as we carved out space for this work.

June 5 | Disrupting Time and Space: Considerations in Community-Centred Evaluation (In-person, UBCV)

Join an exploration around the ways in which timelines impact community-centred evaluation processes. Together, we will dream beyond the boundaries of institutional concepts of time and space, creating strategies that support co-developing community-centred project evaluation that support respectful relationships between communities and project partners.

June 6–27 | Applying Anti-Racist Pedagogy in the Classroom program

Join this cohort-based program to explore anti-racist approaches and practices in the classroom while learning from others and building relationships in a collaborative learning environment. Participants will explore ways to embed anti-racist principles into your teaching practice and come away equipped to support IBPOC students.

N.B.: The program runs over a four-week period. Participants are required to commit to the entirety of the program.

Scholarship of Teaching & Learning funding opportunities

​The Scholarship of Teaching & Learning (SoTL), the systematic study of teaching practices and learning experiences, is increasingly important within post-secondary education. UBC faculty and staff are invited to apply for two funding opportunities in support of SoTL at UBC.


SoTL Seed program

All UBC faculty and staff are invited to apply to the SoTL Seed Program, which provides those interested in exploring the impact of their pedagogical choices with graduate research specialists, collegial collaborations and limited funding.

Submit a proposal by by May 27, 2024.

SoTL Linkage Grants

SoTL Linkage Grants enable the synthesis, exploration and high-impact dissemination of interdisciplinary SoTL research. This program supports the formation of interdisciplinary teams of SoTL researchers inquiring into fundamental questions in higher education that benefit from investigation in multiple pedagogical and/or curricular contexts.

Submit a Notice of Intent by May 29, 2024. Interested groups are also encouraged to attend an information session on May 15.

UBC University Killam Professors: Call for nominations

The UBC University Killam Professors (UKP) designation recognizes exceptional members of faculty who are extraordinary teachers and researchers, who are leaders in their academic fields and who have received national and international recognition.

The Faculty of Medicine is launching an internal selection process to nominate up to two candidates to be considered for the UKP competition.  Submit nomination packages for internal review by June 27, 2024.

UBC Health Interprofessional Education Scholars program

Faculty members with an interest in interprofessional education (IPE) and collaborative practice are invited to apply to the IPE Scholars Program by May 12.

Offered by UBC Health, the program offers up to $5,000 funding to support the development and dissemination of IPE scholarship. Participants also join a network of IPE Scholars to share their ideas and inform a broader research agenda for innovative, interprofessional activities that have the potential to advance progress in health professional education.

Submit an application by 11:45 pm on Sunday, May 12, 2024.

Research & Reflections on Teaching: A Medical & Health Education Series

Join the Office of Faculty Development for an upcoming session in their new professional development event series, Research and Reflections on Teaching.

The events will cover emerging and relevant topics in healthcare teaching, while providing an opportunity for faculty to connect and network. Session topics are applicable to clinical faculty, academic faculty, front-line teachers and educational leads who teach in the MD Undergraduate Program, Postgraduate Medical Education, and Health Professional Programs.

The series kicks off on Thursday, May 23 with First, Do No Harm: Developing Trauma-Informed Medical and Health Professional Education Practice. Join the virtual panel session for an exploration of trauma-informed education, how it can support inclusive environments and practical tips.

Save the date for a province-wide hybrid event on Friday, September 13. The half-day event will include the annual Webber Lecture on Intergenerational Teaching, as well as local discussions and networking opportunities, with a virtual option for remote participants.

New abortion access course for healthcare providers

Access to abortion is a human rights issue; being able to obtain one in a timely and safe manner is part of basic reproductive health.

We All Have a Role to Play: Increasing Access to Abortion Care in Canada explores current abortion trends across the country and applies person-centered strategies to overcome barriers that hinder abortion care.

The 90-minute accredited and self-paced course is designed for all health professionals that provide sexual and reproductive care including physicians, nurse practitioners, midwives and registered nurses.

The course launched in March 2024, and is offered by UBC CPD in partnership with the Contraception and Abortion Research Team (CART) and funded by Health Canada.
