​​​Dean’s Office Communications is responsible for communicating and promoting the mandate of the Faculty to the internal community of learners, faculty, staff and alumni, our partners, and to the broader external community.  Working in consultation with the UBC Departments of Public Affairs and Communications & Marketing we provide a range of communication services to the Faculty’s departments, schools, centres and units.

  1. Communications planning and consultation
    • Develop and consult on communication plans, goals, selecting the appropriate tools, developing high quality content and referrals/suggestions of other resources (e.g., printers and photographers) for projects such as annual report, websites or newsletters
    • Coordinate and support communication activities throughout the Faculty, working with the UBC Department of Public Affairs and Communications & Marketing, health authority partners, academic partners and government.  
  2. Media relations (promoting the Faculty in the media)
    • Writing news releases about faculty research or Faculty news
    • Pitching stories to the news media
    • Responding to or coordinating media requests 
    • Providing media training to faculty members, Faculty leaders and students
    • Coordinating public announcements related to the Faculty
    • Issues management.
  3. Internal communications and MedNet
    • Develop and manage MedNet
    • Communicate units’ events, activities and accomplishments to the Faculty and to the UBC community
    • Writing/editing and distributing Faculty-wide memos, broadcast emails, The Link and academic leadership appointment announcements​
  4. Digital and web communications
    • Develop and manage
    • Sharing Faculty news through the website, Twitter, YouTube and blogs
    • Implementing Faculty-wide web standards and governance
    • Consulting developing and training on websites, e-newsletters and social media
    • Website domain name requests
    • UBC Common Look & Feel (CLF) implementation
    • WordPress and Writing for the Web training 
  5. Develop and coordinate UBC Medicine magazine, publications and marketing initiatives 
    • Work with units across the faculty to develop digital or print publications to support stakeholder engagement, fundraising initiatives and student recruitment
  6. Brand management
    • Develop and provide Faculty of Medicine logos and templates
    • Implementation and consulting on visual identity guidelines
    • Faculty of Medicine signage guidelines
  7. Events
    • Communicating units' events to the faculty, UBC community, and external communities
    • Maintaining promotional items (e.g., banners, pens)
    • Speech writing (primarily for faculty leaders, at public or private events, provided upon request)
  8. Photos
    • A photo library is available to faculty units to provide photos for digital and print publications. 
  9. Training
    • Provide communications related training to staff and faculty (e.g., WordPress, Writing for the Web and Working with the Media)
