Dr. Butterworth is a clinical professor in the Department of Surgery, and a pediatric surgeon at BC Children’s Hospital. She has held a number of leadership roles in medical education, most recently serving as Assistant Dean, PGME, where she was instrumental in improving the learning environment in clinical settings, supporting success in program accreditation, and enhancing PGME’s learner accommodation process.

Dr. Sonia Butterworth

As interim Associate Dean, PGME, Dr. Butterworth will oversee quality, accreditation, innovation and learner experience across all postgraduate medical education training programs, and maintain excellence in clinical education, learner wellness and health authority engagement. Having served as Associate Dean, PGME for the past nine years, I am grateful for the opportunity to have worked alongside our outstanding programs, faculty, clinical faculty, staff and learners. It has been a privilege to serve in this role, and I am deeply thankful for the collaboration, innovation and dedication that have shaped PGME.

The search process for the role of Associate Dean, Postgraduate Medical Education will be forthcoming.
