Physical Therapy & Research Clinic at UBCV

Physical Therapy & Research Clinic at UBCV

The UBC Physical Therapy & Research Clinic is accepting new patients.

Located in the Friedman building on UBC Vancouver campus (next to UBC Hospital), the clinic serves UBC faculty, staff and students as well as the broader Vancouver community. Services include manual therapy, sports injury, pre- and post-surgery and neurological rehabilitation.

Appointments are available with one of the clinic’s six fully-licensed physiotherapists, or with rotating Master of Physical Therapy students supervised by preceptors. An initial appointment is $70 with a student physiotherapist or $85 with a licensed physiotherapist. Up to 80% of this cost can be covered under UBC extended health benefits.

Search for a new Dean, Faculty of Medicine & Vice-President, Health — Update

A message from Gage Averill, Provost and Vice-President, Academic, UBC Vancouver.

Further to my previous memo, dated December 16, 2024, confirming the membership of the President’s Advisory Committee (PAC) and describing the search process, I’d like to provide this update on activity since then.

The search consultants began their recruitment efforts this past winter and presented the PAC with a slate of candidates from which the committee recently chose individuals with whom they conducted confidential first-round interviews.  The committee has narrowed down to a short list, and these candidates have accepted the committee’s invitation to return for the semi-finalist stage of the search. To ensure we retain the strongest pool of candidates possible, the Committee decided to invite these candidates for confidential in-person meetings with a limited number of representatives of the Faculty, UBC Health, the University’s senior administration, and external stakeholders.

The PAC will solicit feedback from participants in these meetings for consideration in the next stage of the search.

It is anticipated that the finalist candidate(s) will then be invited back to meet with a broader audience and present at a Faculty forum, to which all members of the Faculty and UBC Health will be invited, in accordance with UBC Policy AP5, Deans Appointment Policy.

If you have any question or concerns, please feel free to contact me at provost.vpa@ubc.ca. We look forward to your participation as the search progresses.

Solutions Summit: Working Towards Climate Solutions

Join the Climate Solutions Research Collective for this in-person event exploring Solutions Scholars projects from four interdisciplinary research cohorts. Each project team will present on the progress of their projects, followed by an opportunity to gather in small tables to dive deeper into individual projects as well as broader related research questions.

In September 2024, these four interdisciplinary research cohorts began working together on Solutions Scholars projects. Supported by faculty from across campus, fourteen graduate students have contributed to projects related to heatwave forecasting and communication, evaluating carbon offset programs, using Large Language Models to ‘chat’ with IPCC reports, and advancing climate mitigation and adaptation in agroecological landscapes.
