Purpose
The purpose of the Resident Management System is to enable program staff to effectively manage Resident academic and employment records, so that PGME can continue to operate and fund residency programs province-wide.
Goals
The goals of RMS are to:
- Support PGME in upholding accreditation standards by improving information management while ensuring resident privacy and confidentiality.
- Enable UBC staff and external stakeholders (e.g. health authorities, HEABC, CPSBC) to comply with the collective agreement by providing greater visibility into resident training records and reducing technical complexity.
- Strengthen our ability to coordinate across the Postgraduate Medical Education (PGME) by standardizing business processes.
Governance
The Resident Management System Operations Working Group (RMS-OWG) will guide the operations of resident tracking both in terms of business practices and processes in relation to the RMS system to ensure standardized and accurate learner tracking and reporting across Postgraduate Medical Education (PGME).
Lines of Accountability & Communication
The RMS-OWG reports to the RMS Steering Committee and is accountable to the Postgraduate Medical Education Office through the Administrative Director, PGME. Representatives of this subcommittee liaise with other academic and administrative committees and advisory councils, as needed.

Mandate
The Resident Management System Operations Working Group (RMS-OWG) will guide the operations of resident tracking both in terms of business practices and processes in relation to the RMS system to ensure standardized and accurate learner tracking and reporting across Postgraduate Medical Education (PGME).
Purpose and Authority
The purpose of this working group is to:
- Support the PGME Office in prioritizing areas for focus and development related to RMS.
- Liaise with key users of RMS including PGME staff, Program Administrators, IT and Residents.
- Plan the development of training activities related to RMS.
- Make decisions regarding prioritization of enhancements based on factors such as functionality, support, cost, and sustainability.
Composition
This RMS-OWG is made up of ex officio and appointed members.
Members’ contributions to the OWG should be derived from the opinion(s) of the group they represent, to the best of their ability.

Term
Ex officio members are members for as long as they hold their administrative appointment.
Appointed members are members for a one-year term and are eligible for renewal.
