Strategies for Publishing Success with The LANCET

Dr. Sherrie Kelly, Senior Editor, The Lancet, Canada presented a Workshop into the behind-the-scenes world of editorial decision-making at a high-impact medical journal-The Lancet, and shared what editors are looking for in paper submission, and what the common pitfalls can be for prospective authors.

Dr. Kelly joined The Lancet in 2024 as the first Canadian-based editor at The Lancet Group. For the past 20 years, she collaborated with over 30 low- and middle-income countries to better invest in their HIV, TB, malaria, maternal-child health, and COVID responses. Her research interests also extend to climate health and health systems strengthening. Before joining The Lancet, she served as a Deputy Editor with JIAS, and scientific researcher at UNAIDS in Switzerland and at health institutions in Australia, Denmark, and Canada. She was honoured to have been a keynote speaker at IAS2019 and a speaker at AIDS2020. Dr. Kelly was awarded PhD in disease modelling in 2017 from Monash University (Australia) and holds an MSc in biochemistry and medical genetics and a BSc Honours in medical genetics. She is based in Ottawa.

The workshop was held at UBC-Vancouver in May 2024. A video recording of the session and slides (in PDF) are at the links below.
