UBC Faculty of Medicine offers standardized computer equipment, including desktops, laptops, printers, servers, and audio-visual equipment (e.g. headset and webcam). Through standardization, we can minimize cost and turnaround times for support.
The MedIT Service Desk will be your primary point of contact for initiating and submitting your order. Upon the approval of your purchasing request, MedPurchasing unit will place an order with our vendors.
- The average time of arrival of our offered equipment is up to five weeks, upon authorization by the speed chart approver and finance.
- Hardware not listed in our catalogue may take longer than usual, as prices need to be quoted with our vendor.
- The price quotes turnaround from our vendor is 4 to 5 business days.
- Orders over $3,500 need to be processed via Purchase Order, therefore it may take 2-4 weeks longer than usual.

Available Computer Equipment Details
Voice and Data Usage Policy for information on mobile phone devices in the Faculty of Medicine. This policy enables eligible faculty and staff in the Dean’s Office to use the device of their choice, and consolidates all users to the Faculty of Medicine’s Phone and Data Plan which fully covers reasonable business usage expenses. The Policy is currently being implemented in the Dean’s Office.

Most Microsoft products fall within the campus-wide licensing agreement, which provides a large discount to departments. The MedIT Service Desk is happy to help you identify the software that you need. Upon the approval of your purchasing request MedPurchasing will then place an order with our vendors.

While most of our equipment is standardized, MedIT can build and configure the appropriate server to suit your needs. We also provide virtual servers to improve the stability, manageability, and affordability of computing and storage.

Data Centre Hosting
MedIT provides data centre hosting services to manage and monitor your network, server and storage gear. Our facilities provide physical security, cooling, back-up power and high-speed connectivity to UBC networks. Storing your equipment in our data centres also frees up your internal networks and allows your organization to focus on its core business, not the technological infrastructure that supports it.

We will work with other UBC departments and partner groups to support you before, during and after your office move.
Please notify the MedIT Service Desk at least one month in advance of your scheduled move. During this period, we will investigate the parameters of your new location to ensure that we can physically and virtually connect you to the secure networks and servers that you need to do your job.
